Coraline

When I was asked to make this Coraline cake I had yet to see the movie. So I immediately went into "student" mode, bought the movie and started "studying". I really like the movie! It's based on a book and if you haven't seen it, its about a young adventurous girl named Coraline who feels neglected by her parents after they move into a new place. While they're busy, young Coraline finds a passage to another world where she finds her "other" parents, who have button eyes. The other parents pay attention to her and they act like a family and want Coraline to stay with them, but she too will have to get button eyes. It definitely has some darkness to it, I suppose you could say its a mild horror but I liked it. Miss Maliya likes it too...so much so her mom ordered it in cake form...all 3 tiers! There were so many things in the movie to draw inspiration that this cake could have been made so many different ways. The top tier represents the gift Coraline receives from her other family. The middle tier design I pulled from the dvd case and the bottom tier is designed after the cake Coraline receives from her other family. By the time I had this baby stacked it was soooooo heavy. My nerves were in overdrive during transport to the restaurant. I really need to find a sign for my car that reads, CAKE ON BOARD. Because let me tell you, when you deliver a cake you've got to be careful and that means driving slow. So for those you honking at me on the road you can buzz off! lol...j/k, no one was honking. By the time I got to the restuarant the bottom tier started to fold a bit because of the weight and poor Miss Coralines foot fell off :( But thanks to some quick thinking and honey the foot was fixed! lol. Everyone seemed to be really pleased with the cake so of course that made my day :) Thank you for the order Lorinette and Happy Happy 3rd Birthday Maliya!

Throwback game system

Penelope Cruz, Jay Leno, Jessica Alba, 2 of my friends and one of my favorite people celebrate their birthday today. That favorite person I speak of is the hubby :) This cake was made at his request and it didn't surprise me because he loves video games, especially the throwback ones. After I gave it to him we talked about how this is the first "themed" cake i've made him. Of course i've made birthday cakes for him before but they were usually small and simple. The cake was red velvet frosted in cream cheese icing because it's his favorite :) and to make his day even better, this cake came after a Lasagna & salad dinner. Happy Happy Birthday B! xoxo

Princess of the Amazons

Who doesn't love Wonder Woman? When Michelle and I first talked about making a Wonder Woman themed cake I was so excited about it. I think we first spoke about it in February and I remember thinking that April needed to hurry up and get here. I wanted to go home that day and make it. I knew this was how I wanted to make it because a tier cake would be more interesting, and of course I needed to have the tiara on it. I did forget the gold portion on the red tier and I forgot to add the lasso to the side of the cake :( but Michelle loved it :) The cake itself is spice cake frosted in cream cheese icing because that's her favorite. Happy Birthday Michelle, I hope your day was fabulous!

Pre-school Promotion

This cake was made for the same little girl I made the horse themed cake for. I thought it was so cute because her mom ordered it for her Head Start pre-school Promotion :) It's a full sheet, half white/half chocolate cake frosted in buttercream. I thought the best way to add color would be to make things she would recognize...things she saw in the classroom daily. So I added crayons, shapes, a ruler, the chalkboard, a "kid" drawing (which btw probably should have been the easiest thing to draw but when I got around to doing it I drew a blank, lol), and I added the Class of 2011. I thought about adding Class of 2024 because that would be the year she graduates from High School but changed my mind last minute out of fear people would not know what I was trying to go for or they thought I was just crazy, lol. Anyway, the cake turned out cute and I hope she loves it. Congratulations Aiyaaniibaa!

AC Milan

My brother's birthday isn't for a couple of days but with my work schedule the way it is, I had the time today to make his cake so I did just that. He's follows the Italiano Futbol Serie A and his favorite team is AC Milan so deciding what theme I would be using for his cake was pretty easy. I'm not much of a soccer fan myself although I do have a couple of favorite soccer athletes...David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo. In fact, my brother was telling me that there could be a chance Cristiano could play for AC Milan and if that's the case i'll be watching the games alot more! If i'm not mistaken, I think the team gets new jersey's every year so i'm not sure what year this jersey is, but regardless, it turned out nice. I was happy with the result and my brother liked it so that's what really matters. I had asked him what flavor/filling he wanted and being the kid he is he decided on Betty Crocker Cherry Chip cake with cherry icing. For as long as I can remember he's always loved it. Happy *cough* 23rd *cough* Birthday Sean :) You can be a bit much to handle at times but i love ya kid!

Wishing you an Eggs-traordinary Easter!

I made this basket cake this morning to sweeten the day a little. It wasn't too over the top with flavor, just a simple 1/2 white - 1/2 chocolate cake. It'll be a nice dessert after dinner. I hope your day is filled with love and laughter with friends & family. Happy Easter!!

Who loves Coach?...I do!

Dana ordered this cake for her sister's Birthday a few weeks ago. I was so anxious to get started on it that when the day finally approached I was all about it. My husband was nice enough to even help me with it. He helped me place the fondant, showed me the best way to cut the fondant so it fit like a glove and after a few hours when my hand got tired, he took over with painting on the C's. Inside most Coach purses you'd probably find money and plastic, inside this one you'll find a lemon cake with vanilla custard filling, frosted in buttercream. It was a team effort and overall, i'm super pleased with how it turned out. I hope they love it! Thank you for the order Dana :) And Thank You Hubby for your help!

Anniversary Mini Cake

My inner lightbulb lit up when Maria ordered this cake. She was looking to celebrate her 9th wedding anniversary with a sweet treat, so what better way to do it then have a mini wedding cake and some chocolate covered strawberries. Cute right?...I think so. I never saw her actual wedding cake but I know she used blue in her wedding party. So I thought i'd come up with my own little design for it. I wanted it to be simple because the cake is so small I didn't want to overload it. Although I think if anyone else wanted to order something like this I could most likely replicate their wedding cake. Another fun idea might be to just order a new style every year and then you can have pictures of the many "mini" cakes you've had. That might be what i'd do, I like to change things up! This cake is so tiny I absolutely love it! It definitely fits the big things come in small packages idea. The bottom is a 6 inch round, the middle tier is a 4 inch round and the top is a 2 inch round. Its a white cake with strawberry filling (because that's what their wedding cake was) and covered in fondant. Happy Anniversary Maria and Jason! I hope you enjoy it and here's to many many more years of happiness together :)

Topsy Turvy

Heather ordered this cake as a surprise for her daughter Hayden's birthday. She said she wanted a mad hatter topsy turvy style. She mentioned her daughter's favorite color was purple and that she loved Alice in Wonderland. I pulled different elements from the movie. The hat, the watch, the cards, and the top tier represents Alice's dress (blue with a bow). The bottom tier is a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling, the top is a white cake with raspberry filling. Its frosted in buttercream and covered in fondant. When I dropped off the cake, Heather was very pleased with it and as they were about to drive off Hayden was in the back seat thrilled with her surprise cake. It made my day that my mission was accomplished :) Thank You so much for the order Heather!! Happy Birthday Hayden! I hope your day is filled with lots of fun.

BoSox

This cake is a perfect way to celebrate opening day right? But I've got to come clean...I'm not a Boston Red Sox fan...I'm not even really a baseball fan. I'm a football kinda girl. But that's okay, I can still make a fun baseball themed cake. This cake...er...cupcake is a great way to show support for the team. So all at once at three okay? one, two, three...let's go BoSox! :) This cake was made for Aaron...the same Aaron who I made the Superman cake for. Not too sure if you can tell by the picture, but it was a pretty big cupcake. To give you an idea of size, I used 6 inch cake pans for the base of the cupcake. I think his reaction was something like..,"Holy Cow"...except not using that second word...if ya catch my drift ;) lol. He liked it and that's all i needed to know! Oh, and the inside was a chocolate with Oreo creme filling frosted with both a chocolate buttercream and vanilla buttercream. The baseball top was covered in fondant. I hope you enjoyed the yumminess of it too Aaron! Now...Play Ball!
