Wedding
This beauty took several attempts and practice runs to get right. Heather had recommended me to Cyndy, who was ordering the cake for a wedding she was throwing for her daughter Arron. Well, I met with Cyndy and two of her daugters but didn't get a chance to meet Arron until the day of. All communication was done with the bride via emails and picture texts of the practice runs because she lives in Louisianna. She wanted a 4 tier squared cake in dark purple (think eggplant or plum), with dark burnt orange and olive green orchids and matching olive green scroll piping at the base. The hardest part about this was making sure the colors were correct, and for that reason I chose to do the practice runs. Purple is such a bold color that I needed to make sure it was good...there's a fine line between making sure it was eggplant and didn't get so dark it almost looked black. Now, i don't know that the picture shows the purple hues all too well but I promise it was purple :) To achieve this color I went the spray route and also premixed some purple into the fondant. I thought about purchasing fondant from an outside supplier...something I've never done. So you can imagine my hesitation with that. I worried about the consistency of their fondant and most importantly the color in which their purple was. I thought about mixing pre made purple and black fondant to get a darker shade...I thought about mixing red, blue and black....I made some fondant and while in the liquid state added color....I did it all! Lol. In the end the spray technique worked. The flowers were made days in advance giving them time to dry and the night before and morning of involved putting it all together. Because of the way they were stacked the sizes were something like 12", 8", 5", and 2.5". It was marble cake with chocolate ganache. I had a lot of help from the hubby with this was also, the morning of he assisted with the flower dusting and drove me to the drop off site while I held firmly onto the cake :) so a big thanks to him! I'm really pleased with this cake and everyone, bride included, loved it too! Thank you for the order Cyndy and Arron. Congratulations! I hope your marriage is filled with lots of love and happiness.
Superhero
Oh my! This was a busy week for me! My weeks usually are anyhow with work but this one in particular took the cake! Pun intended :) I had a wedding cake on Friday...that post will follow. And then my good friend Katie, a couple weeks prior had asked for a graduation cake for her niece. Well...I think you know I don't like turning down orders...because it gives me something to do that I LOVE doing. So I took on the order...hehehe. Decorating the cake....easy peasy! It was the prep work and baking that took some good planning. One night I would do this...the other night I would something else, etc. The great thing about it all was Katie was willing to take the cake a couple days in advance. So I had it ready for her Wednesday. I was nervous about the quality of the yumminess because as I've said before I'm all about the freshness of a cake. It can look good, but if it doesn't taste good than what's the point? But the following week when I saw her again she said it was fine :) whew...operation superhero cake complete! And if I may add, that's a pretty cool graduation cake! Why didn't I think of that when I graduated? If I remember right...the bottom tier was a 10" inch white cake with strawberry cream filling, the middle tier was an 8 inch chocolate with Oreo cream filling and the top tier was a 6 inch red velvet with cream cheese filling/frosting. Covered it all in fondant and voila! A 3 tier monster of a cake that was super heavy! Oh and if i may add, this is a replica of a cake picture found online, i dont know who made the original. Thanks for the order Katie!
Purses
Heather ordered this fun pair for two Birthday gals who have purses that match. Fun idea for purses and even better in cake right? I've been waiting to do cakes that have a lace appearance to them so I was really looking forward to it. Heather is a great client and usually let's me know weeks if not months in advance of orders and each time her cakes are all I think about until the day of. Each cake has a little symbol on them to show what each was into, hence the book and horse. I'd like to think of them as pins :) thank you so much for order Heather, i'm looking forward to the next one:)
Farm
Here is another 6 inch round mini cake :) I made this back in April...lol, so much for keeping up with my blog right? I made the cake for my friend Michelle's Birthday. The idea for the farm theme came from another friend Cyndy. Michelle has chickens, ducks, and turkeys at home so this was perfect. Thanks for he order Cyndy :)
