The Great Outdoors
Have you ever seen the movie "The Great Outdoors"? well, that's what this cake makes me think of. If you haven't seen it, its a must. Dan Akroyd and John Candy are hilarious! The request for this cake was that it represent what she loves to do and that was to be outdoors camping and enjoying nature. I was limited with space to work with on top because the cake was a 8 inch round but I think it turned out really cute. I thought for sure I needed to put a bear on it, so making it so the bear was digging for food in the tent was the way to go. I added some fruits and cookies thrown about the campsite for extra color and excitement. The little skunk was added for fun because I would imagine when camping these little guys are bound to make their appearance. Even without camping, i see these little guys everywhere, all the time. I absolutely love love love the baby skunks! and secretly, I love the smell of skunk :) I know, gross right? I know i'm not the only person who enjoys that smell so don't be hatin! lol. If I remembered correctly, Aaron said she had an orange tent so that was a nice personal touch to it, and what's a campsite without a campfire right? The cake itself is a carrot cake frosted with a cream cheese icing, covered in fondant. It definitely smelled scrumptious so I hope they enjoyed it. Happy 25th Birthday Lisa! and Thank You for the order Aaron...You're awesome!

Lemon and Spice is oh so nice.
Can I start by saying how sweet this cake smelled...oh it was just too much yumminess to handle! The top tier was a white cake with lemon mousse filling frosted in a lemon buttercream. The bottom tier was spice cake with cream cheese frosting...yummo! This was ordered for my friend's grandmother's 100th Birthday. How amazing is that? It's such an incredible milestone. It amazes me to just think about what all she's seen. Now being the perfectionist I am, I just couldn't get the "messy" look to the bottom tier quite right. I know, I know, it supposed to look like that, but it was almost as if it needed to have some kind of rhythm in fluffiness, if that makes any sense to you at all. Nonetheless, the cake turned out cute. The flowers added that touch of delicate I was going for. It was mentioned when ordering the cake that one of the hobbies enjoyed was knitting and crocheting so what better way to incorporate that then to have a ball of yarn with knitting needle topper? The ball of yarn was cake and the yarn look was made using fondant. So here's to starting off a new year as a centenarian! Happy 100th Birthday! Thank you Michelle for the order, i hope you all enjoyed it.

Just for fun
I was super excited to make this one because I had been wanting to do it for so long but didn't really have a reason to. This size makes for lots of cake so i couldn't exactly make it for myself. So when Katie asked me to make her family a cake I figured I would jazz it up a bit. I think the only thing i would have done different is add more "tissue paper" to it. With exception to the supports in the cake, its all edible. I was thrilled her family enjoyed my Valentine's heart cakes so much they wanted more of it, so I hope they enjoy this one just as much :) Thanks for the order Katie, you're awesome!

Re-posted with a story :)
I just don't get a grown man's obsession with superheros, Super Man specifically. He's just a comic book character, but I suppose if you're going to have a favorite superhero, at least pick a good one! lol...kidding, i'm only kidding, all you crazy Super Man fanatics out there. Two of my faves are Wonder Woman and Storm, although my brother tells me often, "there is no such thing as a female superhero!" lol...excuse me, Superheroines. This cake was made a while back, maybe 2 years ago? I wanted to make something he would love. It was either this or his other obsession, the Boston Red Sox. I just wasn't about to go down that road. Boys and baseball- that's a whole other story. Anyway, I thought it came out cute, yup a cute Super Man cake! I know, Super Man isn't cute...he's a, well, a superhero...a man! right? Hahaha...sorry, but damnit! this cake is cute. Originally I had posted it just as a picture with a few other cakes i've made titled A Few Blasts from the Past and he's asked me a few times...why no story? what, all the other cakes get a story and mine doesnt?...well this is for you Mr Kimmel, Re-posted with a Story :)
**i think i'll repost the pic when i find the original...i'm not too thrilled with the blurriness of it.

Super Bowl XLV
Super Bowl XLV came and went and my Steelers lost. Cue the Sad Trombone music...now! lol. I suppose its okay though, you can't win them all. They're a great team and have 6 Super Bowl rings to prove it, so they're still #1 in my book. It gave me a good reason to finally make a Steelers cake and what better way to do it then make it look like the helmet. Here's to a good season, even though i'm bummed we'll get second to the last draft pick.

Sweet 16
Last week I asked my sister what kind of cake she wanted for her 16th Birthday...she said "just make me a cupcake". So i did just that except I had to take it to the next level by making her a HUGE cupcake :) I should have taken the picture next to a regular size cupcake so you could see the size difference. But if it helps, the board it's sitting on is 14 inches in diameter. She called me a smartass for making her a cupcake this size, but what are sisters for right!? Happy Sweet 16 Jay Jay! I love ya kid :)

Happy Birthday Lily!

Remember a few posts back...the pink and green 2 tier stacked cake i made for the baby shower? well this cake was for the baby! I can't believe she's already a year old. I'm so happy her mama asked me to make her first birthday cake :) i wanted it to be perfect and girly and fun all rolled into one. She had a couple of requests, the first was to make the cake with low sugar and the second was to incorporate lillies for her Lily :) Honestly this is one of the first orders i've had with a low sugar request so there was some challenge there but i'm really happy with the results. I decided to bake an applesauce cake with apple filling, frosted in a low sugar cream cheese icing that is so yummy you'd never believe there was hardly sugar in it! I topped the cake with fondant, which unfortunetly I haven't found a low sugar solution because fondant is all sugar! I'll be working in my lab (my kitchen) to find a low sugar option though :) I finished the cake with a turtle/garden theme and voila! Seriously, not trying to toot my own horn here or anything but how stinking cute is this!!!??? I hope everyone loves it as much as I do. Happy Birthday Lily!!!
