Dodgers and cupcakes

This was ordered by a friend for a friend, who, apparentely is a Dodgers fan. She said small...in my opinion it was small but she said it wasn't. I think she wanted just the top portion (the baseball section) but sorry Z...that would be too boring :) It needed some zha-zha-zhu, so I decided to have that portion atop the 8 inch round blue portion. It spices it up just a bit don't ya think? She liked it though so that's what matters :) Thanks for the order Zerina! I hope your friend loved it.

These lovely cuppy cakes were orders by my fellow co-workers for another co-worker who was leaving to brighter and better things :) They were a white cake with a pineapple cream filling. I hope the new city is treating you well Christina! I'll for sure visit when I get a chance :)

Alice in Wonderland

So this first cake was made...a week too early! Yikes! There was some confusion and the wrong date was given. Luckily the issue was fixed...so that explains the second cake :) Both were strawberry cake with strawberry filling, frosted in buttercream and covered in fondant. And let me tell you each one was just as heavy. Oh my goodness, i think my arms were sore the next day :) My idea for the bottom tier came from the cards in the movie, the second tier was modeled after the mad hatter in Alice in Wonderland and top was a tea pot. Cute right? i was really proud of this cake and when i got word that it was made too early, i'm not going to lie, i was pretty sad. Because with the way fondant is, putting it in the refrigerator isn't always the best idea because when you pull it out, condensation is it's worst enemy. It literally will "sweat" and that can just lead to all sorts of stuff, from the fondant bubbling to it pulling and tearing. Thank goodness she was able to pick it up the next day. And that leads to this cake...

Just as cute right? i think so. I almost thought for a minute it would be impossible to do. This just happened to be the week my work scheduled changed for a couple of days, and we had been planning to leave at the end of the week to see my parents. I got off work early Friday morning at 2 am and this cake needed to be done by 6 am Friday and miraculously i pulled it off! But i wouldn't have been able to do it all without the help of my husband and some strategic planning. So a big thanks to the hubby! You Rock! I'm all about the cake being fresh so those thinking...why don't you just bake the cake a week ahead of time? i don't do it. Fresh is always best. The longest i'll let a cake sit in my refrigerator before it has to be decorated is 1 day :) I wanted to use bright colors and of course have reference again to Alice in Wonderland. The bottom tier was modeled after the cake at the "Un-birthday Party" in the movie. The middle tier has both yellow and orange in it but it's hard to see in the picture and the top tier is another tea pot :) Due to my lack of blogging this is late so...Happy Be-lated Birthday Jennifer. I hope you enjoyed both the cakes! :)

It's been tooooo long...

***wow...its been a few weeks since i've blogged...i almost forgot my password to log back into my blogger account! :) It's just been a crazy busy month for me. Between the week my work schedule changed and going to see the parents and birthday parties...whew, this month has just flown by. So i apologize for not having updated the blog but i should get better at it :)

This first cake was for a graduation party. Anna ordered it for her daughter Taelor. She wanted something fun, something that would best represent her daughter. We had corresponded by email and she had help from her other daughter on ideas. This was the result! A beach theme. It was a marble cake frosted with buttercream and covered in fondant. On her down time and when she's able to, Taelor loves to relax and get some sun at the beach. The volleyball was put there because she played in high school, the bicycle and purple cast were included because it was based on a memory they'll always share. She loves music, so if you take a closer look you'll notice she's listening to her ipod and a beach just isn't complete without a beachball. To pay tribute to the reason for the cake order, the second tier has a cap & tassle cake topper (with FHS and class of 2011 written on top). This was a lot of fun to make...all the bright colors really make it pop! Congratulations Taelor!
